Studying what? Programming languages, of course. Still stuck in a programming mindset here. It just comes easier to me than other hobbies. And there's a lot to learn. Had to stop myself from turning this journal into yet another techie blog.

Then again, that's a good sign. It's spring, and my enthusiasm is back. I even started taking photos again. You can see some of them on my Mastodon profile. (Scroll down a bit.) How ironic that I'm doing this now, when my old phone has been relegated to a glorified compact camera, while last year it barely saw use.

Last but not least, I've uploaded a lot of code to Codeberg, where people can more easily interact with it. So far it's kind of slow, since the site hasn't reached critical mass yet. Then again, that's another reason to use it more. Come on over, try it.

maintenance topside like changing old lines, revarnishing the oars and
inspecting the rigging. After a whole winter of getting up in the dark to do
weight training, I feel it was well worth it as my back pain is
gone, I sleep better and feel more overall physically capable. I have a month
left of gym membership and plan to make use of it as much as I physically can
before its expiration, and our casting off.

I've spend the idle hours of these past few days improving Left, thinking about concatenative programming and trying to better
understand what makes a language concatenative. To try and answer this
question, I've asked members of the catlang community to add example programs
for the various flavors. One of these examples was the Tak
Function which was new to me, and found it to map surprisingly well to
stack programming.

It's just been too nice outside for any more computer musings.

Enjoyed Henrik Karlsson's Third Chair story.

Things are finally getting back to normal. I launched Phraxos, A POSIX compliant static website generator for caffeine.wiki. People are already testing and using it, which is pretty cool. Progress at work is good, and I'm having a good time with the ambient music workshop at the polyphase portal.

Also: Recovering from illness, resting, reading books, dropping some midway. Exploring the world openly, using available tools and seeking new ones, aiming to grasp the complexity and chaos around.
2024-03-11 — February -https://kiosk.nightfall.city#2024-03-11 — February -2024-03-11T00:00:00+00:002024-03-11T00:00:00+00:00
February was short. Yet, tough challenges filled it. It tested me with of trials to gauge my resilience.

The important project I mentioned in January crumbled despite our best efforts. February brought a crash landing, leaving us staring at the wreckage in disbelief.

Out of nowhere, everyone got sick at our household. The timing was almost comical, aligning with our project setback, as if testing us further.

Looking back, there's little I want to revisit about it.

Farewell to February — a month that felt like a marathon. Out of it I got, a bit weary, with some stories to tell.

Time to embrace March, a month already in full motion.
2024-03-10 Left revamp -https://kiosk.nightfall.city#2024-03-10 Left revamp -2024-03-10T00:00:00+00:002024-03-10T00:00:00+00:00
We took Pino's chainplates off and while the new ones
are being fabricated, we reinforced the area where the chainplate meet the
deck. It makes for a momentarily uninhabitable place to live, so I haven't had
much headspace to do creative work these past few days, but it will be well
worth it considering the places we're hoping to venture into.

Whenever I get to reclaim my desk from the pile of tools and materials that
took residency on there, I fool around with UTF-8
encoding support in Left. Looking into how diacritics
can be appended to other glyphs, I've begun to consider if I couldn't possibly
encode the Uxntal Alphabet entirely from
pre-existing glyphs within the two-bytes range and use diacritics for
modes.

Made a few improvements to Left's support for UTF-8.

Rewrote the uxn.js, it now passes the opcode tests.

Added example programs to the concat wiki.

What are you doing here again! Never mind this is perfect! The site's UI has been updated for the first time since 2016 :O

I hope you enjoy it, and please report bugs or ugliness! Also you can click the icon that looks like this to see the classic format!

Now go and have fun! - ALSO, Adopt a Zorb!!
2024-03-09 -https://kiosk.nightfall.city#2024-03-09 -2024-03-09T00:00:00+00:002024-03-09T00:00:00+00:00
started to stream our maintenance practice: a long overdue revision and update of the uxn tutorial

I also shared instructions on how to make a good friction hitch. Yep, I've been getting back into knotting lately! I documented some of the knots that Dev & I use the most aboard pino on the 100r website.

I improved the look of the hakum page, adding small graphics and trying to space out the content better to make it more pleasant to read (I have a tendency to pack a lot of text in a single page *sweats*). I started a new comic sequence but progress is slow because Dev & I are preparing for a big sailing trip this summer. We hope to make it to Northern B.C., near the Alaskan border. I spend my days studying guide books and charts, trying to understand how the wind and current behaves. This coast is not easy to sail, but we want to get better acquainted with it, even if it means getting uncomfortable for a short while.
2024-03-06 -https://kiosk.nightfall.city#2024-03-06 -2024-03-06T00:00:00+00:002024-03-06T00:00:00+00:00
i published spinny game remastered around 2 weeks ago and didn't post about it here ! you can go play it here. there's still a lot to be done -- i have more main levels planned, i'd like to add unlockable secret levels (right now the secrets do nothing except put *s on your level select screen), and i'm thinking of making music for the game (seems real hard especially considering i haven't made like any music ever but i feel i have taste compatible with my taste and can sometimes put small amounts of effort into things). i'll get to all of that soon

i made a few edits to lipu lili since there were some inaccurate bits, hopefully they're marginally better now. the source code is also now available on github.
